SIP protocol support
NewSomething Nx Witness is currently lacking is the ability to integrate SIP based devices (eg. Intercoms/phones/speakers).
The audio handling has come a long way in version 5.0/5.1, however without support for both SIP protocol and commonly used SIP audio codecs, a lot of devices can't be integrated and support bi-directional audio.
In the same way as ONVIF provides a standardised method for integrating CCTV/security devices, SIP provides a standardised method for integrating network based audio. Adding this to Nx would provide broad support for the vast majority of network audio products without having to get brand specific with integrations.
SIP is also designed around real-time audio so provides the benefit of lower latency two-way audio.
Would be great for this to include functionality for desktop/mobile clients to initiate a SIP call (as well as receive) using soft triggers/rules engine to allow for two-way audio. Perhaps also include in the audio mapping features.
Thanks
