    I don't think currently Nx will lock any files, but a bookmark lock option sounds very interesting and something we had on other systems that our partners used quite a lot.

    In Portugal for example, a user cannot retain recordings for over 30 days, except if the police makes a request for specific recordings, where they also specify that the client must retain those specific recordings for at least 1 year after the request has been done.

    Hi Victor Kravchuk,

    Miguel Câmara is right. A bookmark is a tag to a section of footage and will be recycled together with the footage.

    One of our development partners, Connectrick, created the Nx Download Tool to download each new bookmark to avoid that they being overwritten.

    To save storage, we also have the option to set the backup feature, to only back up Bookmarks (and/or motion and/or objects).

    Hi, Norman!

    The backup function allows you to back up all bookmarked portions of an archive. But, if we intend to make a backup copy of one of the bookmarked portion - how to do this if we cannot select the one we need?

    I'm asking this because there is not a guarantee that export of the 24-48  hours ' archive  will be successful.  And we are faced with a choice: write this large archive, breaking it into smaller sections, or - put bookmarks in the archive and block overwriting in this place. Or make a backup of this large section by selecting a specific section of the archive with bookmarks. For now we can only break this large archive into smaller sections. In this situation, the ability to block the marked part of the archive would be great.

    This problem need to be discussed, because this task is from the operator's live needs.

    Hi Victor Kravchuk,

    At this moment, if you want to save a selection of bookmarks, instead of all, the only way is to export the bookmark. Such huge exports are very demanding and exceptional, but should be processed fine. The only limitations you might encounter are total file size limitations and/or hardware capabilities.

    I agree it would be nice if you can mark a bookmark, to protect it from being recycled.

    But as simple as this seems, it also brings other challenges that should be considered;

    Like how much of the storage may be occupied by these protected bookmarks? You don't want that over time people have created such a number of bookmarks that there isn't capacity anymore for regular recording, right?

    And should this value be fixed or flexible? And should be flexible under the hood, or in the GUI? Or perhaps a different retention time should be enabled for these protected bookmarks. Or both?

    And I'm sure many more if and buts can be thought of when creating the business requirements for such a feature.

    I'll dig up the old feature request and add some information, so our product team can take this into consideration as a feature improvement for the future.

    Thank you, Norman! As the Eastern proverb says, "the right question is half the answer!" :)
