SRTP support
AnsweredHello,
We are responding to a tender where there is a requirements for the cameras and VMS to support SRTP (Secure RTP) integration.
We are using VIVOTEK cameras where they already support SRTP.
After searching online I have confirmed that other VMS's have announcements saying they support SRTP integration with Axis and VIVOTEK for increased security.
Please confirm if NxWitness already uses SRTP when integrating VIVOTEK cameras through ONVIF, or if this is something still in the roadmap.
I am not sure if this question makes sense, but does SRTP have any value when adding an RTSP stream to NxWitness?

Hi Miguel,
Thanks for the waiting. We have confirmed with VVTK team, they told us that they have not yet completed implemented the SRTP for general communication with 3rd parties, likely this is for their own VMS maybe. So we assume your customer might be saying the RTSP over HTTPS instead of SRTP while the user was mentioning this requirement?
Nx Witness supports SRTP. At some point, while the camera is on the process of ONVIF initialization, the server asks the camera for URLs of video streams and the camera replies with URLs with rtsps:// schema it should work. However, this is not yet very popularly used and we have not yet got the report of either work or not-work from production sites.
So, we will say SRTP is implemented on Nx Witness, but we are not sure if the camera can provide the rtsps:// URL for video stream during the ONVIF initialization. This would be a topic on camera firmware then.
Thanks.

Hi Guilhem Decoux,
When you enable Use only HTTPS to connect to cameras SRTP will be used if supported by the cameras.
You'll find this option in the System Administration menu, tab Security. -
Hi Paul chen,
I don't really test the SRTP on several cameras at the moment, as the requests really rare and not very common so far. It could be my misunderstanding but if you could test from your site and let us know in case you face any issue?
Thanks.

Hello Ichiro,
I'm jumping in the conversation.
I know Nx support video encryption between server and client.
But for a projet in France we need SRTP between cameras and server. Did you performed some test with any brand ?

Hi Guilhem Decoux,
There might be misunderstanding, please allow me to address them.
I know Nx support video encryption between server and client.
I am not sure what part of the encryption you mentioned here.
In fact, we encrypt the video traffic means the RTSP traffic is encrypted, not the video data itself.
So while you say video encryption between server/client, this feature in Nx Witness is video traffic, the RTSP traffic between Nx Client and Nx Mediaerver is encrypted.Video Encryption is another feature that encrypts the cold data sit in the storage (at rest), so just to clarify these two are different features.

However, this is not really available via general cameras brand now, so we don't really have the chance to test with any brands, if you know a camera firmware suppots SRTP, we are happy to test it through the access you provided.
You may send the email/request to our sales and pre-sales. For EMEA and France, you should be able to contact our EU sales and EU pre-sales.
Thanks.

Hello Ichiro,
I'm back on this topic, we have another project coming.
Cameras supporting this function will be Hanwha Vision X series, we need to connect them with Nx Witness and get SRTP working.
I found a post with another VMS mentionning how they achieve that :
<link_removed>Can you let me know if it can be working with NX ? If not working currently do you have it in the roadmap ?
Regards
