Force all cameras to low rez
AnsweredI am having a situation where i need to force all of my cameras in a layout to low rez because NX is using too much CPU. It seems to be an issue on beefier system when they think it ok to go high rez. I have found that i can highlight the cameras and manually change the resolution, but when that layout is closed or when wave is closed and reopens, i have to go through the process again.

Hi Matthew,
Nx Witness has a feature called adaptive scaling. You can check the article here
After you changed the resolution, you need to "SAVE" the layout.
You can either use the shortcut "CTRL+s" or right-click on the tab then save it,
The preferred resolution would be kept.

Mathew, you are not the only one who needs this feature. We are asking for it since many months. I still hope to get it. Guys, if you are also interested, please vote on it.
Automatic adaptive scaling and saving layouts are not solutions to our problems, because we are using alarm layout in our projects. Alarm layout is not possible to switch and save to low-res.
Adaptive scaling will not solve the real problem here, which is lower performance of the alarm system (and the system is Nx 4.0 and around 30-50 servers per hive). Using HD streams always makes the system less efficient and slower when compared to using secondary streams. We are sure of that, after many experiments.
Here is how it works. An alarm from AI camera goes through Nx remote mini-agent to central monitoring station to the operator, so the alarm video message must be extremely fast. When we use primary streams, it takes many seconds for the alarm to appear in central monitoring station. First, in the alarm window Nx client displays a red-color border, but there is nothing inside of that border. After a couple seconds (depending on many live parameters) operators can see what is inside of the alarm camera window. And if we use secondary stream, we can see alarm video contents almost immediately, like 1-2 seconds. Now imagine you get many alarms at once, which is quite often, because there are thousands of cameras in the system. Operators must react very fast in such moment. There is no time to wait for HD streams.
You already have an expert checkbox to disable dual streaming for each camera. So why not add another checkbox to switch the camera to always display it in low-res stream only in all layouts ?

I have found that this only works on new layouts. if you have a saved layout, then change to low rez and try to save it, it is grayed out.

Hi Matthew
It should work on saved layouts as well. Can you share which version of Nx Witness you use? And which OS on the server and which OS on the client?

Hi All
We also need this feature. Saving a layout is not a solution.
In our solution, we use NX for remote offsite monitoring. Bandwidth costs money (in our country) and streaming only the low res stream will save a lot of money in this scenario.
