Change IP address without deleting camera?

If for whatever reason the IP address of a camera needs changed, the only way I see to do it is to delete the camera and re-add it. That is not a big deal in itself except I lose the camera names, and that is a big deal when there are a lot of cameras. It'd be way cool if the camera name was associated with the MAC so it was retained after an address change, like the archive.

(in case you're thinking to yourself right now that I should have planned my network better, it's not my network. The in-house IT guys specified the network parameters and the customer is always right....even when they're wrong)

  I'll second that. I have a building where the network is going to be upgraded. As part of this all the cameras (12) will move to a new vlan. So I'll have to delete them and re-add them as new devices.

  Oh, and of course retain recording settings, aspect ratio, rotation and audio enabled along with name.

  Wasn't too bad. I renamed 200 cameras fairly quickly by importing the original camera list and new camera list into an Access db and using the MAC as the relation between the two tables. Then referencing the new IP to the old name and renaming one by one in the client.

  Yes, retaining all the settings is important. Is there a way to export and import them? It will be time consuming to have to redo these for each camera.

  Hmm.. After changing the IP address of a camera, I added the new IP address without removing the old one, and it updated the existing camera to the new IP address, retaining all the configuration (Name, recording settings, Motion Detection...).

  Unfortunately, even after updating the IP address, it did not update the Primary and Secondary Stream RTSP's IP address...

  So there is a mismatch, and while NxWitness knows that the camera's IP address is the new one, it is still trying to get the RTSP from the old IP address.

   

  As a result, I am still forced to delete and re-add the camera.

  Hello,

  I have 20 + existing cameras I need to change the ip addresses as they are moving to a another APN.  This with result in the camera having a new ip address.

  I have over 100 existing PTZ locations defined and I don't want to spend hours re adding them.

   

  is there anyway yet to change the existing camera with a new ip ?

  Hi David Bessen,

  My valued colleague answered your question in the topic you created. 
  Once a camera has been added, it will have a unique identifier and the IP address becomes less relevant.

  Hi Norman,

  I added the camera with its new ip address after the apn change and didn’t delete the existing camera (if that makes sense).

   

  Anyway the camera picked up the new ip address and keep the ptz presents , so that’s fantastic.
