Hi, this was posted under the 6.0 Beta feedback forum, can you confirm for us though if this is a question related to 5.1.x or 6.0 versions of the product as the steps/options to perform would be different between the two (6.0 has more granular options).

In 5.1.x for example, this is how you would accomplish something similar:

You can create a custom user role that has permissions that do not include the ability to provide "User Input". This would allow you to apply that role to users who you wish to not have access to things like PTZ control or 2-way audio.

The described case concerns version 6.0 beta

I thought that since the topic is "Nx Witness Gen6 Beta feedback" I no longer need to add which version a given opinion applies to.

Thank you for the clarification. You are correct, this is the community page for 6.0 feedback but given the vast differences between the two in regards to user roles and permissions I thought it pertinent to at least verify for certain.

Below are the steps to accomplish a more restrictive permissions set for a user:

Note: The key differences between 5.1.x and 6.0 in regards to user permissions is that 6.0 does provide the ability to set permissions at the user level without having to configure them within a group/role and then assigning that group to the user. Other than that change however, and the more granular ability to set the options per device, etc., the actual permissions that are available to set have not changed.

    1. In the client, launch the User Management screen from the menu icon in the top left hand corner.
    2. In User Management, click on the user in question you wish to edit.
    3. For the user properties window that opens, click the "Resources" tab.
    4. Here is where you can configure permissions for the user specifically, for the same option as what was described in the steps I posted previously, you'll want to focus on the "User Input" options which control a user's ability to interact with anything that requires input (ie. PTZ controls, two-way audio, etc.).
    5. Just like in 5.1.x, you can still configure these at the group level as well and just assign the users you wish to limit the access for those groups.

Note: The Viewers group permissions may already be least privileged to the manner that you're hoping to attain here.

Perhaps I haven't specified what functionality I'm looking for.

In version 6.0, I cannot separate PTZ permissions from 2-way audio permissions or I/O permissions. You can choose only the full set of permissions or none at all.

    Thank you for the clarification.

You are correct, there is not a way to separate the User Input permissions more granularly, however this functionality doesn't appear to have ever existed within the product and was not expected within the 6.0 release either with the additional changes that came to user management in the release.

Please feel free to provide feedback around this functionality via this link as the feature you're asking about does not exist: Feature Feedback

I can't entirely agree with you. I wrote about our expectations 4 months ago: https://support.networkoptix.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/21002752373527-Separating-User-Input-permissions-into-separate-checkboxes

Do you plan such functionalities in future releases?

    Thank you for the reply.

The feedback is the best way to request future functionality, as for additional user permissions/management changes, I am not aware of any specific actions that center around your request here, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are additional changes coming down the pipe as the 6.0 release becomes more mature post-release (and leading into future releases).

The feedback provided 4 months ago is likely still under review, however please note that not all feedback can be incorporated into the product and those that are, are prioritized accordingly within the existing development backlog behind other approved feature requests/functionality.

At this time though, as stated, there is not an option to do this within the product and there is no ETA that I can provide on when more granular permissions would be available. Thank you.
