Direct Attached Storage versus NAS Share
AnsweredHi there
I'm looking to connect a NAS expansion device to my NX Witness server via USB-C 3.1 for the purposes of real-time footage archive (not scheduled backup).
I will be recording motion events spanning 50 x Cameras @ 6MP using H265. I will have approximately 50TB of storage available.
An alternative approach would see my presenting a file share via a NAS appliance. Is there any penalty for providing direct attached storage in this manner as distinct from a NAS file share.
Given that this is a DAS solution, no RAID will be configured on the storage target, just JBOD.
Are you able to confirm the viability of such an approach?

Hi!
From VMS perspective it is more reliable to work with local storage as we exclude network issues from the list of potential problem. For as long as your storage handles required read/write speeds there won't be any issues. As for RAID configuration, it is usually dictated by required reliability for stored data.
