An excellent addition to the new in client web browser would something like a SOCKS 5 proxy to tunnel through a connection to the remote server and the LAN it is sitting on so you can access the camera web pages on the remote LAN without requiring any VPN connection or port forwarding.
So i am thinking heres me sitting in my office and the customer rings up and says he needs the camera ip address altering for some reason. normally because this is something you have to do with web browser or manufacturers ip tool i have to visit the site. But with this tunneling I can open the camera settings, click on the link to address in the settings which instead of opening my machine browser opens the inclient browser, tunnels the connection through to the remote LAN to the cameras Web port. I change the IP address, reboot the camera and hey presto! Job is done!
Of course this means that the camera to NX integration doesnt have to be so extensive to access all the settings.
There is a good article from digital ocean on the basics of it. https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-route-web-traffic-securely-without-a-vpn-using-a-socks-tunnel
Axis cameras also do something similar too i believe.
