File and directory permissions for NX on Ubuntu
AnsweredWe're running NX on Ubuntu 20.04
I'm wanting to mount some external storage at /opt/networkoptix/mediaserver/var/data or /opt/networkoptix/mediaserver/var
I can see that networkoptix is the owner of this directory but that root can also be an owner of some files. What recommendations do you have around file and directory permissions and inheritance of permissions? If it is an externally mounted drive, what permissions for root?

Hi Garry Allen,
Can you tell us why you need to extend the capacity and trying attached storage on this path?
- If you are going to extend the recording period, it is more suggested you should mount the external storage on "/mnt" or "/media"...etc.
- If you are going to give the database more space or put them in SSD etc, you may just attached the disk and configure the path.
For most of the cases, you don't need to operate the system disk so you may keep the application/OS in separation.
